What is Slippery Elm Bark Powder?

Slippery Elm Bark (Ulmus rubra) is derived from the inner bark of the Slippery Elm tree, native to North America. The bark naturally contains mucilage, a plant compound that forms a thick, gel-like texture when mixed with water.

Because of this characteristic, Slippery Elm Bark has long been used in traditional herbal preparations.

How to Use Slippery Elm Bark Powder

Take ½ to 2 teaspoons up to three times per day.

To prepare a thick mucilaginous mixture:

1. Add 80ml of water to ½ teaspoon of Slippery Elm Bark Powder.

2. Stir well to combine.

3. The mixture may initially appear lumpy and can take between 1–5 hours to fully form a smooth gel.

For convenience, many people prefer to prepare the mixture before bedtime, allowing it to thicken overnight for use the following morning.

Water quantities can be adjusted depending on the desired consistency.
