Grape seeds naturally contain a diverse group of plant compounds known as polyphenols. Among these are proanthocyanidins, including shorter-chain compounds commonly described as oligomeric proanthocyanidins, or OPCs.

Rather than relying on the weight of the extract alone, this formula is standardised to provide a consistent concentration of proanthocyanidins in every capsule.

Vitamin C has been included alongside the grape seed extract and contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress, normal collagen formation and the normal function of the immune system.

What Is Grape Seed Extract?

Grape seed extract is produced from the seeds of the common grape, botanically known as Vitis vinifera.

Although grape seeds are small, they naturally contain a concentrated range of polyphenolic plant compounds, including:

• Proanthocyanidins
• Catechins
• Epicatechins
• Other naturally occurring flavonoids and polyphenols

Concentrating the seeds into an extract allows these characteristic plant compounds to be provided in a measured and consistent form.

What Are OPCs?

OPC stands for oligomeric proanthocyanidins.

These are naturally occurring plant compounds belonging to the wider proanthocyanidin and polyphenol families. They occur in grape seeds and skins, as well as in foods such as certain berries, cocoa and apples.

The term “oligomeric” refers to smaller chains of linked flavanol units. Grape seed extracts are often selected and standardised according to their proanthocyanidin content.
