Slippery Elm Powder 100g

Description
Health Leads Slippery Elm Powder is made from 100% pure Slippery Elm Inner Bark (Ulmus rubra), with nothing added and nothing removed.
Native to North America, Slippery Elm has been used in traditional herbal preparations for generations. The inner bark naturally contains mucilage, a plant fibre that forms a smooth, gel-like consistency when mixed with water.
Our powder contains only finely milled Slippery Elm Inner Bark, allowing you to prepare it to your preferred consistency for traditional use.
Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
What Is Slippery Elm?
Slippery Elm (Ulmus rubra) is a deciduous tree native to eastern North America.
The inner bark has traditionally been harvested, dried and finely ground into a powder. Unlike the outer bark, the inner bark is naturally rich in mucilage, giving Slippery Elm its distinctive texture when mixed with water.
Naturally Occurring Mucilage
Mucilage is a naturally occurring soluble plant fibre found within the inner bark.
When water is added, the powder gradually absorbs liquid to produce a smooth, thick gel. The final consistency depends on the amount of water used and the time allowed for hydration.

No fillers, binders, preservatives or artificial ingredients.
How to Prepare
Mix ½ teaspoon of powder with approximately 80ml of water and stir thoroughly.
The mixture may appear slightly lumpy at first before gradually thickening. Depending on the desired consistency, it can take between 1 and 5 hours to fully hydrate.
Many people prefer to prepare the mixture in advance and leave it overnight.
Water quantities can be adjusted to produce a thinner drink or a thicker gel.

Frequently asked questions
-
Slippery elm (Ulmus rubra) is a deciduous tree native to North America. The inner bark has a long history of use in traditional herbal medicine. When mixed with water, the inner bark powder forms a thick, viscous gel — known as mucilage — due to its high content of complex carbohydrates called mucopolysaccharides. This mucilaginous quality is what makes it distinctive as a herbal ingredient.
-
Caution is advised. The mucilage formed by slippery elm may coat the digestive tract and potentially slow the absorption of oral medications taken at the same time. As a precaution, take any prescription medication at least one to two hours before or after taking slippery elm. If you are on any regular medication, consult your doctor or pharmacist before use.
-
Mix half to two teaspoons of powder into a cup of warm water or herbal tea and stir well. The powder will begin to thicken as the mucilage develops — this can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours depending on the amount used and water temperature. Some people prefer to prepare it in advance and allow it to stand. It can also be stirred into porridge, smoothies or yoghurt.
-
We do not recommend taking slippery elm during pregnancy. Slippery elm bark has traditionally been associated with uterine stimulant properties, and its use during pregnancy is not considered safe. If you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, do not take this product without first consulting your midwife or doctor.
-
Each pack contains 100g of slippery elm inner bark powder. At half a teaspoon (approximately 1.5g) three times daily, one pack provides around 22 days of use. At lower amounts or less frequent use, the pack will last considerably longer. Usage varies significantly depending on individual preference and serving size.
