Collection: Supplements

Health Leads has been making additive-free supplements in Wales since 1998. We manufacture our entire range in-house — from unpacking raw materials through to encapsulation and bottling — in a purpose-built Class 7 clean room, to the ISO 9001 quality management standard. We do not use magnesium stearate, and we avoid the fillers, binders and bulking agents that serve no nutritional purpose. We make capsules rather than tablets, in small fresh batches, because we believe a supplement should contain what is on the label and as little else as possible.

Frequently asked questions

What makes Health Leads supplements different? Popular
Two things above all: what we leave out, and how we make them. We manufacture additive-free supplements in our own Class 7 clean room in Wales, to the ISO 9001 quality standard, and we do not use magnesium stearate or unnecessary fillers, binders and bulking agents.

We also make capsules rather than tablets, which avoids the excipients tablets require, and we manufacture in small, fresh batches. The principle is simple: a supplement should contain what is on the label and as little else as possible.
What is magnesium stearate, and why don't you use it?
Magnesium stearate is a flow agent used widely in supplement and tablet manufacturing. Its purpose is purely mechanical — it stops ingredients sticking to machinery and allows faster production. It has no nutritional function.

We have never used it. Our view is that there is no reason to add a substance to a supplement purely for the convenience of the manufacturing process, so we formulate without it across our entire range.
Why do you make capsules instead of tablets?
Tablets are cheaper to manufacture but require excipients to work — binders to hold them together, disintegrants to help them break down, lubricants for the machinery, and often coatings. These inactive additives can make up a significant proportion of a tablet.

By encapsulating ingredients in a plant-based capsule shell instead, we can fill each capsule with the supplement itself and avoid those additives. It is a more expensive way to manufacture, but it fits our additive-free approach.
What does "additive-free" actually mean here?
It means we do not add substances that serve no nutritional purpose — no magnesium stearate, and no unnecessary fillers, binders or bulking agents. We aim to pack each capsule with pure ingredients.

There is one honest exception: in products that contain only microgram quantities of an active ingredient, a small amount of bulking is unavoidable, and in those cases we use rice flour rather than a synthetic filler. We would rather be precise about that than overstate the claim.
Where are Health Leads supplements made?
All of our supplements are made in Wales, at our purpose-built premises near Llandysul. The entire process — from unpacking raw materials through to manufacturing and bottling — is carried out in-house in a Class 7 clean room, to the ISO 9001 quality management standard.

We have manufactured this way since the business was founded, and we also produce supplements for other retailers and trade partners. Manufacturing in-house means we control quality at every stage rather than relying on third parties.
How fresh are the supplements?
We manufacture in small batches every six to twelve months, rather than producing very large quantities years in advance as some manufacturers do. This means the supplements you receive are freshly made.

We source our herbs and oils from organic or wild-crafted origins where possible, and clean our manufacturing equipment without solvents, using our own gentle cleaning method, to avoid any residue carrying between batches.

Additive-Free Supplements, Made in Wales Since 1998

Health Leads has been making additive-free supplements in Wales since 1998. From our purpose-built clean room in Llandysul, we manufacture the entire range in-house — from unpacking raw materials through to encapsulation and bottling — under the ISO 9001 quality management standard, in a certified Class 7 clean room.

What sets our supplements apart is as much about what they leave out as what they contain. We do not use magnesium stearate, ever. Magnesium stearate is a flow agent used widely across the industry: its only purpose is to stop ingredients sticking to manufacturing machinery and speed up production. It serves no nutritional function, and we have never seen a reason to put it in a supplement. The same thinking runs through everything we make — we avoid the fillers, binders and bulking agents that add nothing for the person taking them.

This is also why we make capsules rather than tablets. Tablets are cheaper to produce but, by their nature, require excipients — the binders, disintegrants, lubricants and coatings needed to hold a tablet together and push it through a machine. In cheaper products these inactive additives can make up a large proportion of the tablet. By encapsulating pure ingredients in a plant-based capsule shell instead, we can pack each capsule with the supplement itself and little else. Where a product contains only microgram quantities and a small amount of bulking is unavoidable, we use rice flour rather than a synthetic filler.

We manufacture in small, fresh batches every six to twelve months rather than producing huge quantities years in advance, and we source herbs and oils from organic or wild-crafted origins where we can. Our machines are cleaned without solvents, using our own gentle cleaning method, so there is no question of solvent residue carrying into a batch.

The result is a range built on a simple principle: supplements should contain what is on the label and as little else as possible. It is an approach we have followed for over 25 years, and it is why customers in more than 70 countries, along with practitioners and trade partners, choose Health Leads.
