What Is Astaxanthin?

Astaxanthin belongs to the carotenoid family of naturally occurring pigments.

Carotenoids are responsible for many of the yellow, orange and red colours found throughout nature. Astaxanthin has a distinctive deep red colour and occurs naturally in the marine food chain.

It is produced by certain microalgae and can subsequently be found in marine organisms that consume algae directly or indirectly, including:
