Cloves are the dried flower buds of the clove tree, an evergreen tropical tree belonging to the Myrtaceae family. Recognised for their distinctive aroma and warm flavour, cloves have a long history of culinary use and naturally contain a variety of aromatic plant compounds, most notably eugenol.

The cloves used in this product are sourced from Madagascar, one of the world's best-known clove-growing regions, before being finely ground and encapsulated.

Our simple formulation contains pure ground cloves with no fillers, binders, rice flour, magnesium stearate or flow agents.

What Are Cloves?

Cloves come from Syzygium aromaticum, an evergreen tree native to the Maluku Islands of Indonesia and now cultivated in several tropical regions around the world, including Madagascar.

The part commonly known as a "clove" is actually the unopened flower bud of the tree.

The buds are harvested before the flowers open and carefully dried, during which they develop their familiar dark brown appearance and concentrated aromatic character.

Cloves are widely used as a culinary spice in foods, drinks and spice blends around the world.

Madagascar Cloves

Health Leads uses cloves sourced from Madagascar, an established clove-growing region with a tropical climate well suited to Syzygium aromaticum.

Rather than using a concentrated clove extract or isolated constituent, this product contains finely ground whole clove buds.

This retains the naturally occurring composition of the botanical material rather than concentrating one individual compound.
