Cat's Claw bark (Uncaria tormentosa) contains naturally occurring plant compounds including polyphenols and oxindole alkaloids. The oxindole alkaloids are considered the most characteristic compounds of this botanical and are the subject of most of the scientific research on Cat's Claw. The bark also contains tannins, quinovic acid glycosides and other plant compounds typical of the Rubiaceae family.

Cat's Claw (Uncaria tormentosa) is a large woody vine native to the Amazon rainforest and other tropical regions of Central and South America. It takes its name from the hook-like thorns on its stems, which resemble the claws of a cat and allow the vine to climb up to 30 metres through the forest canopy. The inner bark of the vine has been used for centuries by indigenous peoples of the Amazon basin and is widely recognised as a traditional botanical ingredient in South American herbalism.
