Diatomaceous Earth (DE), also known as diatomite, fossil shell flour or kieselgur, is a naturally occurring soft sedimentary rock formed from the fossilised microscopic remains of freshwater algae known as diatoms.
Over millions of years, these tiny silica-rich structures accumulated in ancient freshwater lake beds, where they were naturally compressed into mineral deposits. Once carefully mined and processed, the material forms the fine off-white powder known as food grade Diatomaceous Earth.

What is Diatomaceous Earth?
Diatomaceous Earth is composed primarily of the naturally occurring mineral silicon dioxide (silica), which forms the intricate cell walls of microscopic algae called diatoms.
Each individual diatom develops a naturally patterned silica shell before settling into freshwater sediments after its life cycle is complete. These deposits gradually formed the mineral source used today for food grade Diatomaceous Earth.
