Myo-Inositol is the most abundant naturally occurring form of inositol found within the body. It is a carbohydrate-like compound that is naturally present in many foods, including fruits, beans, whole grains, nuts and seeds. Although historically referred to as a member of the vitamin B complex, Myo-Inositol is not classified as a vitamin because the body is able to produce it from glucose.
Myo-Inositol is widely used as an ingredient in food supplements and is supplied here in its pure form with no unnecessary additives or processing aids.

Other forms include D-chiro-inositol and scyllo-inositol, among others. When a product refers to inositol without specifying the form, it is typically Myo-Inositol. This product provides pure Myo-Inositol, the predominant naturally occurring isomer.

Myo-Inositol was historically referred to as Vitamin B8 and grouped with the B vitamins. However, it is not classified as a vitamin because the body is able to synthesise it from glucose. True vitamins are compounds that the body cannot produce in sufficient quantities and must obtain from the diet. Because the body can produce Myo-Inositol, it does not meet the definition of a vitamin, though it remains widely used as a food supplement ingredient.

Myo-Inositol is found naturally in many foods, with particularly rich sources including citrus fruits, cantaloupe melon, beans and legumes, whole grains, nuts and seeds.
